BACKGROUND

The Trust is named in memory of Marian Edwards and her daughter, Elizabeth, who was born in 1939 and suffered from profound mental handicap (as it was then referred to). Elizabeth could not walk, talk or feed herself. Marian, with the support of her second husband, Frederick Edwards, who was Elizabeth’s stepfather, devoted her life to caring day and night for Elizabeth in an era when there was little or no help available to her. Elizabeth lived to the age of thirty three in a warm, loving and comfortable environment, with her mother always there for her.

GRANT GIVING

The Trust makes grants to charitable organisations, such as hospices, which specialise in providing care to children suffering with severe disabilities, with special focus on those with profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Please note that the Marian Elizabeth Trust is unable to accept direct applications from individuals for financial assistance or for specialist equipment and treatment. Instead, the Trust has partnered with Family Fund, to which it makes a significant annual donation, to provide grants to individuals and families. By working with Family Fund we have been able to ensure that, through a single application process, eligible disabled children and young people can access financial support funded by either or both organisations. For further information please go to www.familyfund.org.uk/marian-elizabeth-trust/

The Trust will not therefore reply to any individual requests.
